Navigating the Halal Frontier: Zimbabwean Firms Seek Export Success at MIHAS 2023

In a remarkable display of ambition and innovation, Zimbabwean firms have embarked on a journey of exploration and opportunity at the 19th edition of the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS 2023) in Kuala Lumpur. With a goal to expand their export horizons, these firms, in collaboration with ZimTrade, the nation’s trade development and promotion agency, are showcasing a diverse array of products, ranging from horticultural delights like chilies, macadamia nuts, beans, peas, tea, and coffee to herbal products and the iconic Mazoe fruit juice brand.

MIHAS: A Gateway to Global Trade and Knowledge Exchange:

MIHAS stands as a beacon in the world of international trade exhibitions, fostering not only commerce but also knowledge exchange on a global scale. At the heart of MIHAS lies the immense potential of the halal market, valued at a staggering US$3 trillion worldwide. In Malaysia alone, this market was valued at US$68.4 billion in 2018, with projections soaring to US$113.2 billion by 2030. This thriving landscape presents a golden opportunity for Zimbabwe, a nation eager to diversify its exports and explore new frontiers.

Unlocking New Horizons:

For Zimbabwean entrepreneurs like Jacquie Gowe, the founder of Sweet Maungwe, MIHAS is a revelation. “This is a huge eye-opener for us, the first of its kind for our company to interact with the halal clientele,” she exclaims. Sweet Maungwe has already obtained halal certification in Zimbabwe, but the Malaysian market offers unexpected promise. Jacquie shares her excitement at the prospect of partnering with Malaysian distributors and expanding into neighboring countries.

Tariro Chirewa, representing House of Moringa, echoes this sentiment, emphasizing the enormous potential of the halal market for Zimbabwe. With the hope of sealing deals and expanding their products to other international markets, Tariro is thrilled by the opportunities MIHAS presents.

Blessing Chinduru, the managing director of Fresh Planet, shares similar enthusiasm, noting the significant interest and inquiries from potential partners at the event. The prospects of exporting products to this burgeoning market appear bright.

A Showcase of Opportunities:

With the presence of 470 buyers from 40 countries, MIHAS 2023 has been a thriving hub of commerce and collaboration. Under the theme “Paving the Way of Halal,” this trade showcase has opened doors to new possibilities and expanded horizons. As it draws to a close, the Zimbabwean firms that participated are poised to embark on a journey of growth, prosperity, and global engagement.

The journey of Zimbabwean firms at MIHAS 2023 is a testament to the power of ambition and exploration. In the heart of Malaysia, these entrepreneurs have discovered a world of halal opportunities, poised to fuel their growth and enrich international trade. As the showcase ends, it marks the beginning of a new chapter in Zimbabwe’s export journey—one that holds immense promise and potential. The world watches with anticipation as these firms set their sights on conquering new markets and establishing enduring partnerships on the global stage.
