Uganda’s Jesa Farms Wins Prestigious Africa Food Award: New Plant Named Project of the Year – You Won’t Believe Their Incredible Success Story!

Uganda’s Jesa Farm Dairy, renowned for its production of top-quality fresh and long-life dairy products, has achieved significant recognition at the prestigious Africa Food Awards 2023. The farm’s newly commissioned plant located in Busunju was honored with the highly coveted New Project of the Year Award. This accomplishment highlights Jesa Farms’ commitment to innovation, excellence, and its role as a leading player in Uganda’s dairy industry.

The annual Africa Food Awards, organized by the FW Africa, brought together participants from various countries including Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Namibia, Ethiopia, Zambia, South Africa, Kenya, and Tanzania. The event, held on June 16, 2023, celebrated outstanding achievements and contributions within the African food industry. At the gala dinner held at Nairobi’s Safari Park Hotel, Geoffrey Mulwana, the Executive Director of Jesa Farms, received the awards on behalf of the company.

Geoffrey Mulwana expressed his gratitude, stating, “We are extremely humbled that a family-owned business from humble beginnings in Uganda is being seen and recognized on the global stage. It all started with the vision of our founder who dared to dream big despite having no experience in the food business.” He emphasized the dedication and hard work of the farm’s employees, adding, “Our awarded new plant is more than brick and mortar and is being successfully run by hard-working Ugandans.”

The recognition of Jesa Farms as the only Ugandan business among esteemed competitors at the Africa Food Awards is a testament to the power of innovation and the creation of a strong brand that transcends borders. In a LinkedIn post, Jesa Farms expressed their belief that a commitment to innovation, cutting-edge technologies, and disruptive techniques is essential for success in today’s ever-evolving world. The company sees these awards as validation of their drive for continuous improvement and their unwavering commitment to finding solutions to complex challenges.

The newly established plant in Busunju signifies Jesa Farms’ determination to expand their dairy processing operations in Uganda. This expansion solidifies their position as a key player in the country’s dairy industry. Tunga Musorowegomo, the project manager in charge of the expansion, emphasized the need for increased production to meet the rising demand for dairy products. He stated, “It is important to let our consumers know that the expansion will ensure that the market is sufficiently stocked with quality products.”

Data from the Dairy Development Authority reveals that Uganda produces 2.81 billion liters of raw milk while the national consumption demand stands at 800 million liters. This significant gap between supply and demand has prompted both domestic and foreign investments in milk processing. Currently, Uganda has licensed 130 large-scale, medium-scale, and cottage milk processors, collectively processing only 30% of the raw milk produced.

Today, the JESA brand has become synonymous with great taste, high quality, and innovation. Their wide range of fresh dairy products, including fresh pasteurized milk, UHT milk, yogurt, butter, and fresh cream, has captivated consumers and established Jesa Farms as a trusted name in the dairy industry. With their visionary founder’s dream now realized, the recognition at the Africa Food Awards 2023 serves as a stepping stone for Jesa Farms to continue their pursuit of excellence, fueling their commitment to innovation, and propelling them to even greater success in the future.
