The US$110 million facility is more than new machinery and a neat ribbon-cutting. It is a turning point for Zambia’s industrial story, a physical answer to a long-running question: how to turn abundant raw maize into higher-value products that stay and grow here.

Namib Poultry Industries has taken a big step towa Namib Poultry Industries has taken a big step toward modern poultry farming by installing a fully automated bird sorting system called GRADY. The move is more than a technology upgrade. It changes the day to day of the farm, improving bird welfare, giving staff better and safer tools, and sharpening the data that drives production decisions.

The company has opened its first Walmart branded store at Fourways Mall in Johannesburg, taking over a space that used to be a Game outlet operated under Massmart. This is more than a new sign on a storefront. For Walmart it is the first time customers on the continent will see the global brand in person, and it signals a shift from quiet ownership to public retail presence in one of Africa’s most competitive markets.

That is exactly the promise behind AgDevCo’s recent decision to provide a US$10 million senior loan to Hybrid, one of Zambia’s leading vertically integrated poultry producers. The funding will finance a new, modern slaughterhouse in Lusaka that the companies say will boost local processing capacity, create jobs, and help Zambia depend less on imported poultry.
